As I'm sitting here listening to the rain and feeling the cool air roll in, I'm inspired. It's time to clean out the closet. It's time to start thinking about our fall wardrobes. And nothing excites me more than to start a new season full of new ensemble opportunities.
Yes, ideally I would love to run out and restock my closet with clothes that are out right now and just get rid of everything I have. But - that's not very realistic. {Unless you're a celeb - then more power to ya!} I don't think my bank account would appreciate that, at all. So in which case I have learned how to use pieces I have worn all summer {white dress, jeggings, plaid shirt, heels, and flats} and work them into my fall wardrobe. With ideas like these you don't have to spend a lot to update your closet; just search for key pieces such as flare jeans, mustard cardigan, and a slouchy sweater. These items will last you throughout the fall/winter season. So they are good investment pieces. This is easy with a little guidance and your wallet will thank you!
1. Flare/Bell bottom jeans - I paired the flares with a plaid shirt {we all should have one, or something similar.}. A pair of wedges {or heels} that I've been wearing all summer. The wedge helps elongate the leg in these jeans, with a pair of flats they could become overwhelming to the body. I added a leopard print belt because I like the mix of patterns, it keeps the outfit interesting. A big, bright necklace and a simple gold bangle dresses it up. Grab a neutral bag and you are ready.
2. Mustard Cardigan - This is a piece that will be far more versatile than you initially thought. Mustard is becoming a new neutral. There isn't much it doesn't look good with and it compliments many skin tones. So don't be afraid of it; embrace it. I paired it with a white summer dress {yep, that's right - you CAN wear white after labor day}, slouchy boots, a purple scarf - I like the color combination, a large cocktail ring, and a small tribal bag that pulls all the colors together. It's easy to wear more than one color as long as you keep the proportions smaller and have one piece that brings them together.
3. Neutral Slouchy Sweater - I
love this item. It's a top I think I will wear over and over again. You can throw this on with a skirt, over a dress, with a pair of shorts, leggings, jeggings, etc. This will become to the go-to for me. In this instance, I put it with a pair of dark jeggings {leggings and skinny jeans will work for this look too}, leopard print flats {I love adding a splash of leopard to anything I can, if you can't tell ;)}, stud earrings, a simple necklace, and a bright bag. The mix of neutral colors makes this a very versatile outfit. It can easily be worn to run errands during the day then out for the night.
Well kids, there you have it. Round 1 of my fall wardrobe suggestions... NOW it's time for me to go tackle my closet... EEEEEK! {If I don't return in a few days... send a search party please!}
Hope y'all have a fabulous short week!
Love always.
Please note that the items listed below are only what I used in making this board - they are NOT what I suggest to purchase. Just a good jumping off point to know what you're looking for. ;-)
